The Ferio Tego Metropolitan 30 Years marks a milestone celebration for one of the most enduring names in American premium cigars. For thirty years, the Metropolitan brand has been a trusted companion for countless aficionados — a first cigar for some, a go-to cigar for many, and a celebratory cigar for special occasions. This limited-edition release honors that legacy.
A BRAND THAT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME
The Metropolitan story began in the mid-1990s (circa 1995–1996) when it launched as Nat Sherman Metropolitan — a cornerstone of the iconic New York tobacconist's premium cigar portfolio. From the beginning, the brand came in two expressions: a lighter Connecticut and a rich Maduro. Both became staples in humidors across America, earning loyalty through consistent quality and approachable excellence.
When Nat Sherman was acquired and exited the cigar business, many feared the Metropolitan name would fade into history. But Michael Herklots and Brendon Scott — former executives at Nat Sherman International — refused to let that happen. In 2021, they founded Ferio Tego and brought Metropolitan back to market, preserving the blends that aficionados had trusted for decades.
What makes this continuity remarkable: all Metropolitan cigars are still made by the Quesada family in the Dominican Republic — the same family that rolled the very first Metropolitans 30 years ago. That kind of partnership is rare in the cigar industry, and it's the foundation of Metropolitan's enduring reputation.
THE 30 YEARS EDITION
The Metropolitan 30 Years is a specially crafted blend developed to commemorate this anniversary milestone. While it draws on the Metropolitan heritage, this is a unique expression — a celebration cigar befitting a 30-year legacy.
The Blend:
The cigar features an Ecuador Habano wrapper, chosen for its versatility and ability to deliver both complexity and balance. Beneath the wrapper sits a Dominican binder, providing the structural integrity and smooth burn that define Quesada-made cigars. The filler is a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos, offering depth and nuance while remaining true to the approachable character that has always defined Metropolitan.
The Size:
A single vitola — a 6" × 50 Toro — allows the blend to fully express itself across a satisfying smoking time. The format is classic, familiar, and perfectly suited for an anniversary release meant to be savored.
The Production:
This is a limited-production release. When these cigars are gone, they're gone. The first shipments are heading to retailers now.
WHY METROPOLITAN MATTERS
In the words of Michael Herklots, co-owner of Ferio Tego:
"The Metropolitan blends have been enjoyed for generations. For many consumers and retailers alike, it was a first cigar, a go-to cigar, and often a celebratory cigar. That kind of loyalty and affection only happens when consistency remains core to the brand. When a blend is trusted, familiar, and respected over time, it becomes part of people's personal history. After more than 30 years — and with a bright future ahead — that is certainly cause for celebration."
That philosophy — consistency as the foundation of trust — is what separates Metropolitan from countless cigars that come and go. For 30 years, smokers have known what to expect from a Metropolitan. This anniversary edition extends that promise while offering something special to mark the occasion.
