Elie Bleu Fire Horse Obsidian Ashtray — Black, 3 Cigars
The Fire Horse — Bing Wu — is defined by its element. Fire applied to the Horse sign amplifies every quality the Horse already carries: power, speed, dynamism, and independence, intensified by the energy of the element that transforms what it touches. Elie Bleu's choice of material for this ashtray is not a coincidence. Obsidian is volcanic glass — formed when felsic lava from Mount Ararat cooled rapidly against the air, the silica content too high for crystals to form, the result a stone of deep, lustrous black. The fire that made the material is the same element that defines the collection it now belongs to.
Black Obsidian / Mount Ararat
The obsidian used by Elie Bleu comes from Mount Ararat, the volcanic peak whose stone has been worked and valued since the Neolithic period — obsidian blades, obsidian tools, obsidian objects of significance, all drawn from the same source for thousands of years. The block used for each ashtray is selected, cut, and polished by hand: no mold, no casting, no manufacturing shortcut. The hand-polishing process reveals the stone's natural luster — the deep, mirror-like surface interrupted only by the natural inclusions and flow patterns that form during cooling, each one unique to that particular piece, evidence of the process that created the material. Black obsidian is the purest expression of the stone: mysterious, intense, a surface that absorbs and reflects simultaneously.
Three Cigar Rests / Monolithic Form
Three cigar rests are carved directly into the obsidian block, each dimensioned for the range of vitolas a serious collection contains. The monolithic construction — a single piece of stone, not assembled from parts — provides the stability that the format requires and eliminates the possibility of the ashtray shifting under use. At 17.5 × 17.5 × 4 cm, it occupies the table with the mass and presence of the material it is made from. Three cigars, one stone, one collection: the object that receives the evening at the end of every sequence the Fire Horse accessories begin.
