Elie Bleu USA 250th Celebration Humidor — 125 Cigars
July 4, 2026 marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence — the moment that formalized the American experiment in self-governance and set a standard for political possibility that has reverberated for two and a half centuries. Elie Bleu, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine atelier that has been making objects worthy of significant occasions since 1976, has responded to that milestone with one of the rarest humidors in the brand's history: 50 individually numbered pieces, each a handcrafted tribute to the anniversary and the ideals it represents.
American Flag Marquetry
The lid is the defining element: an American flag rendered not in lacquer or printing, but in individually inlaid wood veneers — the same marquetry technique the Elie Bleu atelier applies to its most complex animal and architectural compositions. Each stripe and star is cut and placed by hand, the grain of the wood giving the flag a texture that changes with the angle of light in the way only a natural material can. The flag read from across a room as an image; approached, it reveals itself as craft.
The exterior is finished in sky blue — the color that frames the composition and references the field of the flag it carries. Patriotic marquetry borders complete the exterior, and the national motto E Pluribus Unum — Out of Many, One — is worked into the design, the phrase that has been present on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782 given its most formal expression here in wood.
Interior
Open the humidor and the American flag continues: a matching flag adorns the underside of the lid, the interior of the piece carrying the same program as the exterior. Below it, Spanish cedar lines the interior throughout. An analog hygrometer monitors conditions. An adjustable cedar divider organizes the space for up to 125 cigars. The humidification system includes a dedicated slot below the tray for a Boveda humidification pack — a specification that reflects the long-term nature of this piece: it is built to store cigars for years, not weeks.
