Elie Bleu Vakar 4-Cigar Obsidian Ashtray — Brown
The Vakar Collection is built around one material: obsidian from Mount Arteni, a volcanic formation whose stone has been worked since antiquity for its hardness, its edge, and its optical depth. Elie Bleu sources this obsidian and works it by hand — cutting each piece from a single block, polishing the surface to the degree that allows the stone to capture and return light without obscuring its natural character. No casting, no mold. The shape of each piece is reached through the stone.
4-Cigar Format
The 4-cigar ashtray is the largest format in the plain-form Vakar range, defined by a quadrangular geometry that gives it the most architecturally substantial presence in the collection. Four cigar rests are arranged within the form, with an ash cavity carved into the body. At 17 × 10 × 4 cm — the same footprint as the 1, 2, and 3-cigar formats — the 4-cigar manages its capacity through the precision of its geometry rather than its overall dimensions. The quadrangular silhouette suits a formal table setting or a well-appointed smoking room: a piece that can accommodate a full group without expanding its physical claim on the space.
Brown Obsidian
The brown variant reveals the warmer dimension of the material. Where black obsidian moves toward opacity, brown obsidian admits more light into its interior — producing amber and honey undertones alongside the warm mahogany of the surface. The polished surface captures surrounding light, and the effect shifts depending on angle and source: warmer and more translucent than the black, with the same internal variations — natural chips, transparency gradients, the characteristic inclusions of volcanic glass — giving the surface its movement and depth. These are not imperfections. They are the authentic expression of the material. Each piece is visually unique.
At the 4-cigar scale, the brown stone's warmth fills a larger surface area — the material's amber depth becomes a more prominent part of the piece's visual character. Now available at The Tobacconist of Greenwich.
