S.T. Dupont Le Grand Cling — Diamond Head / Full Black
Most guilloché lighters depend on contrast. The engraved pattern is cut into one material and set against another — guilloché on gold against black lacquer, or diamond-head on palladium against a dark background. The visual impact comes from the difference between them. The Le Grand Cling Diamond Head Full Black removes that difference entirely. The guilloché is there. The pyramid facets are cut with the same precision that defines S.T. Dupont's engraving work. But everything is finished in black. The pattern reads not as metallic contrast but as texture, shadow, and the subtle play of matte and gloss across an all-black surface.
Guilloché Without Contrast
The diamond-head guilloché on the Full Black lighter works differently than on metallic or lacquer-contrast versions. In the absence of color variation, the facets catch light only when the angle is right — a fleeting reflection rather than a constant sparkle. The lighter reveals its surface detail gradually rather than immediately, requiring the hand and a moment of attention. It is a more introverted expression of the same technique that appears, more overtly, on the palladium and gold versions. The choice of full black is a choice about how loudly the object speaks.
The Boldest Ping
The Le Grand Cling Diamond Head Full Black carries what S.T. Dupont calls the boldest ping yet — the iconic acoustic snap associated with the Line 2, engineered into the Le Grand's larger and heavier format. The Le Grand's greater mass gives the ping more authority than it carries in the smaller format: the same fundamental sound, amplified by the weight behind it. It arrives with a definitiveness suited to the object. Opening this lighter is an auditory event.
