In 2022 — what would have been José García Alayón's 100th birthday — the Garcia family released a limited edition to mark the centennial. The 100 Años won the 2023 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year. It now returns every two years.
The 2026 Release
The Corona Especial is a 6½" × 44 parejo — a classic format that allows the blend to unfold gradually across an extended smoke. Each cigar is finished with a pigtail cap and wears an orange foot ribbon to distinguish it from regular production Le Bijou.
The Blend
A modified version of the original Le Bijou 1922 recipe, though the Garcia family hasn't disclosed the specific tweaks. What we know: the wrapper is what they call "Habano My Father" — a habano-seed leaf so dark it earns an "oscuro oscuro" designation. All tobacco comes from the Garcia family's own farms in San Rafael, Las Quebradas, and San José. Before rolling, the leaves undergo a special fermentation process designed to release maximum aroma and flavor.
The Profile
Full-bodied with the signature Pepín blast — rich earthiness, black pepper, espresso, dark chocolate, leather, cedar, and warm spice. The Corona Especial format delivers excellent balance and a focused flavor experience that builds across all three thirds.
Limited Production
22-count boxes. Only 1,922 boxes produced — a nod to the year José García Alayón was born.
