S.T. Dupont Line 2 "Perfect Ping" — La Flamme (Orange Lacquer / Black Trim)
Fire has always been the subject of S.T. Dupont's craft. The La Flamme lighter makes that relationship explicit — dedicating the entire surface of the Line 2 to the color of the element that the lighter exists to produce.
The Gradient Collection / USA Exclusive
La Flamme is one of two designs in S.T. Dupont's Gradient Collection, available exclusively in the United States. Both designs — La Flamme and La Mer — take their identities from the natural forces that the Line 2's flame most evokes: fire and water. The Gradient Collection represents S.T. Dupont's exploration of how color alone, deployed with precision, can carry that kind of meaning. The body of the lighter is finished in lacquer that transitions between hues rather than settling on a single tone — the gradient effect lending a depth and movement to the surface that a flat color could not achieve.
La Flamme
La Flamme is an homage to the flame itself. The orange and yellow gradient begins at one register of warmth and builds toward another, capturing the way fire holds multiple temperatures and colors simultaneously — its outer edges cooler, its core incandescent. On the Line 2 body, this gradient reads as a surface alive with color, the lacquer giving the hues the kind of luminous depth that the form of the lighter deserves. Black trim at the top completes the composition: a frame that anchors the warmth of the gradient and gives the lighter a precision that keeps it from reading as purely decorative. It is decorative — but it is also restrained.
The Line 2 Form
The Line 2 is S.T. Dupont's benchmark lighter: the form against which all others in the range are measured. Its proportions — 62 × 37 × 11mm, 130g in brass — have not changed since the lighter was introduced, because they were correct from the beginning. The weight settles in the hand at the right point. The dimensions fit a jacket pocket without resistance. The brass body, lacquered here in orange and yellow gradient, has the substance that distinguishes an instrument from an accessory.
The Perfect Ping
Opening the La Flamme produces S.T. Dupont's crystalline "Perfect Ping" — the acoustic signature that has defined the Line 2 since its introduction and remains, for collectors and connoisseurs, the mark that distinguishes an authentic S.T. Dupont from any imitation. The Gradient Collection's construction was designed to preserve this sound exactly, the plaque décor technique allowing the exterior decoration to change without affecting the acoustic properties of the mechanism inside. The ping is the same. The flame is double yellow. The gas comes from S.T. Dupont's red refill; the flint is the standard black.
