The travel humidor addresses a problem that no cigar case fully solves: humidity. A cigar case protects from physical damage — from the pressure and abrasion of a pocket or bag — but it does not maintain the internal climate that a cigar requires to remain at condition over more than a few hours. A travel humidor seals, humidifies, and holds the cigars in an internal environment that approximates the conditions of the home humidor. For journeys of more than a day, it is not an accessory but a necessity.

Stefano Ricci builds this travel humidor at 32×25cm with a height of 6cm — a flat, rectangular form with the footprint of a large book and the depth of a slim briefcase. It is a travel object in the proper sense: substantial enough to protect nine cigars across multiple days, compact enough to place flat in luggage without dedicating a bag to it. The exterior is black walnut root; the interior is mahogany.

Black Walnut Root Exterior

The exterior of the humidor is black walnut root — the dense, figured burl material that forms at the junction of trunk and root system in the walnut tree, treated in black to produce a surface of depth and visual complexity that flat-grained timber cannot achieve. Walnut root at the burl section has a compressed, swirling grain that becomes more itself in black: the color deepening the figure, each passage of the grain reading as a tonal variation within the dark surface. At the scale of the travel humidor, the material covers a significant surface — the grain present across the full 32×25cm lid and base, the figure fully readable.

Mahogany Interior

The interior is lined with mahogany — a fine hardwood with good dimensional stability and a surface that holds its integrity over repeated humidity cycling. Mahogany is the secondary wood of classical furniture making and instrument building; its presence in the interior of the SR humidor reflects the same material standard that governs the exterior. The internal layout accommodates nine cigars: seven positions for full-length cigars up to 199mm and a maximum ring gauge of 58, and two positions for shorter formats up to 118mm.

The humidor holds nine cigars across two configuration zones — 7 positions for long-format cigars (up to 199mm / ring gauge 58) and 2 positions for shorter cigars (up to 118mm). This covers the full range of standard cigar formats from Robusto to Churchill and beyond, with the ring gauge allowance of 58 accommodating the widest commonly smoked formats.

Gold Details

Gold details on the hardware — the hinges, the clasp, the fittings — complete the exterior in the warm register of the SR gold accessories line. Black walnut root and gold is a combination of material contrasts: the dark, textured surface of the wood against the warm, reflective precision of the metal.
