The Plasencia Chinese Zodiac series continues with its seventh release — El Año de la Cabra (Year of the Goat). Inspired by the goat's symbolism of harmony, resilience, and quiet strength, this limited edition reflects the Plasencia family's enduring philosophy: exceptional cigars begin with respect for the land, patience in cultivation, and a generations-old understanding of nature.
"The goat represents a quiet but powerful strength, one that comes from patience, balance, and an instinctive connection to nature," said Néstor Andrés Plasencia, fifth generation. "Those qualities are deeply connected to how our family has approached tobacco for more than 160 years. With El Año de la Cabra, we wanted to create a cigar that honors that philosophy, bringing together the character of our Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos in an expression that is both distinctive and deeply rooted in the land."
The Blend
El Año de la Cabra showcases tobaccos from across the Plasencia family's vertically integrated operation — the most extensive tobacco-growing enterprise in the Americas:
Wrapper: Grown in the Azacualpa terroir in Olancho, Honduras — one of Plasencia's most prized growing regions, producing leaves with exceptional oil content and rich flavor.
Binder: Sourced from the Jamastrán Valley, Honduras — where volcanic soils and ideal microclimate produce tobaccos with remarkable complexity and body.
Filler: A carefully selected combination of Jamastrán Valley Honduran leaf and organically grown tobacco from Estelí, Nicaragua — cultivated without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers on Plasencia's certified organic farms.
The Vitola
The 6¼ × 60 Perfecto Figurado is a demanding shape that demonstrates the skill of Plasencia's master rollers in Danlí, Honduras. The tapered head and foot create a smoking experience that evolves continuously — flavors shifting and building as the cigar's ring gauge changes throughout the smoke.
Medium-full body with exceptional balance and a 60–90 minute smoking time.
The Taste Experience
The blend offers a rich progression:
First Third: Toasted oak and espresso open the experience with depth and warmth.
Second Third: Dark chocolate emerges alongside raisins and earthy undertones, adding complexity and sweetness.
Final Third: Notes of walnut, cinnamon, and clove develop, concluding with a lingering toasted sweetness that defines the Plasencia house style.
The Presentation
Drawing inspiration from the traditional Chinese hóngbāo (紅包), or red envelope, each cigar arrives in its own individual gift box that celebrates prosperity, generosity, and the spirit of sharing associated with the Lunar New Year.
Ten of these gift boxes are elegantly housed in a red lacquered wooden box accented with gold detailing and intricate patterns inspired by the curves of a goat's horns. The presentation honors both the Plasencia heritage and the traditions of the Lunar New Year.
"Our Chinese Zodiac collection has become an opportunity to express Plasencia's creativity and innovation while celebrating traditions that resonate with cigar enthusiasts around the world," said Ed Bello, Chief Executive Officer of Plasencia Cigars. "El Año de la Cabra continues that journey, bringing together thoughtful design, exceptional tobacco, and the craftsmanship that defines our family-owned brand."
Strictly Limited
Only 6,000 numbered boxes have been produced worldwide. When they're gone, they're gone — and the next Zodiac animal won't arrive for another twelve years.
