S.T. Dupont Line 1 — Vertical Guilloché Black / Palladium
The four versions of the new Line 1 exist on two axes: finish (gold or palladium) and body (all-metal or black lacquer). The black lacquer / palladium version occupies the most contemporary position in the collection. The warmth that yellow gold brings to the other three versions — the heritage reading it gives the all-metal body, the graphic richness it adds against black lacquer — is absent here. What remains is precision: the cool silver-white of palladium against a black lacquer ground, the vertical guilloché lines organized as ridges across the dark surface, the whole composition reading without warmth and without excess. This is the most understated and architecturally modern of the four.
Black Lacquer / Palladium
The body is black lacquer — the same premium finishing treatment that S.T. Dupont applies across its highest-specification pieces, built in successive coats to a depth that distinguishes it from a conventional painted surface. Against that ground, the palladium finish provides a cool, silver-white contrast that is more restrained than gold and more contemporary in its associations. The vertical guilloché pattern runs the height of the body, engraved with the precision that defines S.T. Dupont's surface work. Against the black lacquer ground and palladium finish, the lines read as structure and shadow — present, tactile, geometrically consistent, but without the warmth or immediacy of the gold versions. The lighter rewards the kind of attention that discovers detail rather than announces it.
The Original Format / Double Soft Yellow Flame
None of the surface decisions change the Line 1's fundamental character. The double soft yellow flame provides the broad, gentle ignition of the original format — two yellow gas flames for cigarettes and sheltered cigars, no torch, no urgency. The famous cling sounds on opening, the Maison's acoustic signature unchanged by any finish or body treatment. The Line 1 returned with new volumes; the new volumes did not change the voice.
