The Tatuaje Exclusive Series 2026 Tuxtla marks Pete Johnson's latest entry in the annual Exclusive Series—this time featuring the Mexican San Andrés wrapper that has become a signature element of Tatuaje's limited releases.
The Tuxtla Legacy
The name "Tuxtla" comes from San Andrés Tuxtla, the city and municipality that is home to the vast majority of Mexico's premium cigar industry, including its tobacco-growing region. Since launching the Tuxtla Series in 2022, Pete Johnson has used this distinctive wrapper to transform existing Tatuaje blends, demonstrating how dramatically a wrapper can change a cigar's character.
"The San Andrés wrapper really shows how much the wrapper can change the flavor of a cigar," Johnson has said. "We are very particular when using San Andrés, making sure we use it on blends that can stand up to the heavier flavor."
Exclusive Series 2026
The Exclusive Series 2026 Tuxtla arrives in a soft box-pressed 5⅝" × 54 robusto gordo format with a closed foot—a classic Tatuaje presentation that concentrates the initial flavors and provides a distinctive visual signature. While Tatuaje hasn't officially disclosed the full blend, the company uses a double binder of Nicaraguan tobacco and all-Nicaraguan filler for the vast majority of its blends.
Mexican San Andrés Character
San Andrés wrappers are known for their:
Dark, rich coloration
Earthy, bold flavor profile
Distinctive "toothy" texture
Medium-to-full body that demands a robust underlying blend
This isn't Tatuaje's first exploration of Mexican tobacco. Johnson has used San Andrés wrappers on The Face (Monster Series), the Tatuaje Mexican Experiment and ME II lines (2019), various TAA releases including the Tatuaje TAA 51th (2019), and the original Tuxtla Series releases—the Avion 13, Tatuaje 7th, and T110 (2022).
